A technique developed by Dr. Michael LeahyD.C. In response to the need for specific soft tissue work in addition to Chiropractic methods to address his patient’s specific issues. His definition is as follows:
ART (Active Release Techniques) - a hands on touch ands case management system that allows a practitioner to diagnose and treat soft tissue injuries. Soft tissue primarily refers to muscle, tendons, fascia and nerves. Specific injuries that apply are repetitive strains, adhesions, tissue hypoxia and joint dysfunctions.
This technique initially and continues to primarily apply to sports injuries or athletes looking to improve range of motion and thereby power in strength and movement. I find it applies to everyone on the planet over the age of three that wants to improve their quality of life in the physical realms.
We employ other techniques or sports modalities as well use them as needed for each individual client.
Is a “basic” massage sequence applied to everyone?
Yes, of course, depending upon why the client is there and what they need or want. But we do allow for modification as each client is unique and needs to be treated accordingly.

Thirteen years ago I concluded that I would need to change my life. As a career paramedic a chronic back injury sustained while on duty limited me greatly. I had always being interested in “alternative” health care and massage in particular. It was perfect.
